About & FAQs

FAQs

Hopefully these FAQs answer any questions you may have about Costswold Expeditions, however please get in touch if you have any other queries.

How it works

  • How are tours run?

Our Cotswold Expeditions guests travel in a small convoy in their own vehicle.

It’s great because you can bring everyone - all the kids plus the family dog(s).

We proceed at a modest pace and you’ll be in visual / audio contact with the guide vehicle at all times.  It’s easy and fun.

During the day, we’ll frequently jump out and explore the ‘must see’ places and exciting new discoveries.

Zoom allows our guests can interact as we go – asking questions, making comments, etc.  Everybody in your vehicle can take part in the Zoom event - the more, the merrier.

For safety reasons, visual images are not sent to your devices whilst we are moving (so as not to distract the driver).

Both tours start in Moreton in Marsh.  Your personal guide is Michael who will greet you and look after you for the duration of your tour.

Both tours finish at the Falkland Arms, Great Tew, Oxfordshire, where you can stay as long as you like.  You could even book an overnight stay - https://www.falklandarms.co.uk

Just before your booked expedition you’ll receive a Zoom invitation.  Just click on the link to start the meeting.

Please see the section entitled ‘What to bring’ regarding data requirements for your devices.

  • How many people will be in the tour?

The tour will be led by Michael in his vehicle and we can take up to four vehicles in our convoy, including camper vans/RVs and motorbikes.

You can obviously carry as many passengers as you like, including of course, your family dogs.

Food & drink

  • Is food and drink included in the tour?

Yes! As part of your tour, you will enjoy a free morning tea or coffee on arrival in Moreton-in-Marsh, plus a truly scrumptious lunch and drinks.

  • I’m a vegetarian and eat a gluten free diet, can you cater for me?

Yes.  Just make sure you tick the Special Dietary Needs box on the booking form.  Cotswold Expeditions have partnered with historic Pubs, The Swan Inn, Moreton-in-Marsh and The Falkland Arms, Great Tew.  They will be given this information about your dietary needs. We shall all take good care of you.

  • I have a nut allergy; will I be OK?

Yes absolutely, just make this known on the Booking Form.  Our Pub venues will take that extra care.

  • Can I choose from the Pub’s a la carte menu?

Cotswold Expeditions have planned a special menu for our guests with several delicious food options, plus a drink of your choice, all of which is provided with our compliments.  Just take a look at this link here - https://www.falklandarms.co.uk.  If you still want to go a la carte, this won’t be covered in the booking price and will be extra.

  • The Dogs Dinner

Our dog’s menu is prepared daily by the Falkland Arms chef.  You can of course bring your own food for your dog.  We always score a 4 Paw Rating from our canine guests.

Wagging tails and clean bowls tell us all we need to know.

Shopping

  • Are there shopping opportunities?

Yes.  Cotswold Expeditions have partnered with the Hook Norton Brewery shop. Here you’ll find a cornucopia of Cotswold souvenirs – beer & wines, jars of delicious local relishes to a smashing range of clothing.

Children

  • Is the expedition suitable for children?

Yes, very much so.  Children will find it fun and interesting and have a great time.

  • Is there a child rate?

Yes, there is a child rate available and we make no charge for children up to aged five.

Meet your guide

Hi, I'm Michael Rainsberry and I’ll be your chief guide for your day to remember.

I was born in a far corner of the British Empire, modern day Yemen, and brought up in the Cotswolds.  I went to school in this green and pleasant land and later, on the High Plains of Texas, U.S.A.

I’ve lived here for over 40 years.  I owe my love of history to my father who served in RAF Bomber Command.  Later he became a vicar in the Cotswolds and a history teacher.  So yes, I am the son of a preacher man.

I’ve spent years researching the hidden, secret history of the Cotswolds.  I’m your well-qualified guide.

This whole landscape is studded with astounding discoveries.  It’s a profound experience to stand on the exact spot where historic events took place.

Whatever you think you know about the English Cotswolds, I guarantee this will be forever changed after your day with us.

Tech & vehicles

  • What happens if there is a loss of signal during the Zoom expedition?

If this does happen, Zoom will automatically reconnect when the signal is restored.  You won’t miss anything if this happens.  We usually know where and when we head into ‘data holes’.

  • We don’t have smart devices, can we still come on the expedition?

Yes, absolutely no problem.  You’ll be able to follow us and still enjoy the Cotswold expedition, most of the content is presented at the various locations we visit, not via Zoom.

  • I have a motorbike, can I still come?

Yes absolutely.  But we will assume you have the in-helmet Bluetooth tech to enable full participation in our Zoom event.

  • What about parking and admissions?

Relax.  All pay-and-display parking is taken care of by Cotswold Expeditions, as are the admission charges to National Monuments.

Money stuff

  • What if somebody else is paying as a gift, but not coming on the expedition?

No problem.  Anybody can pay, but Cotswold Expeditions still need to know the names and details of those actually coming on the tour.   This is important for the Zoom invitation and for your delicious, Cotswold Pub lunch.

  • Do you have a policy on refunds?

The short answer is yes, and our policy is fair and reasonable.  We are nice people and refunds depend on the circumstance.  Please read our full refund policy via this link Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Comfort & safety

  • Are there rest room facilities on the tour?

Yes.  Cotswold Expeditions have arranged at least three comfort break stops on both tours.

  • Do you have a First Aid kit?

Yes, we carry a basic first aid kit for safety, but if you have any specific requirements please be sure to bring any medications with you.

We remind you and your children know not to pick up unidentified mushrooms or berries, and take care not to dive into stinging nettles and get snagged on thorns.

  • What happens in bad weather?

We run our Cotswold Expeditions in all weathers, all year round.  It would take a lot to stop us, but if Cotswold Expeditions have to cancel due to bad weather, i.e. deep snow and hazardous ice, we will send you a cancellation alert in good time and offer you another day.

Privacy

  • What about GDPR and privacy?

Don’t worry, we only keep information securely in order to make your Cotswold Expedition wonderful as well as safe.  The only other information we keep is what you give us permission for, such as signing up for our Cotswold Expedition Newsletter.
