FAQs

Hopefully these FAQs answer any questions you may have about Costswold Expeditions, however please get in touch if you have any other queries.

Food & drink

  • I’m a vegetarian and eat a gluten free diet, can you cater for me?

Yes of course, just make sure you tick the Special Dietary Needs box on the booking form.  Our award-winning Pub venue will be given this information about you and will be happy to cater for your requirements.  They’ll take good care of you.

  • I have a nut allergy; will I be OK?

Yes absolutely, just make this known on the Special Dietary Needs on the booking form so our Pub venue can take that extra care.

  • Can I choose from the Pub’s a la carte menu?

Cotswold Expeditions have planned a special menu for our guests with several delicious food options, plus a drink of your choice, all of which is provided with our compliments.  Just take a look at this link here - https://www.falklandarms.co.uk.  If you still want to go a la carte, this won’t be covered in the booking price and will be extra.

  • What’s in the Dogs Dinner?

Our dog’s menu is prepared especially by the Pub venue and a full ingredients list is available on the Dogs section of this website.  The Dogs Dinner has been approved by a veterinarian as being totally delicious for dogs.  Additionally, you can peruse the details of the dog’s menu when we get to the Pub.

  • Are children allowed in the Pub?

Yes, they are more than welcome.  Please let us know on the Booking Form if you need a highchair.

  • What about alcohol consumption?

Sampling traditionally brewed beer is a wonderful part of the Cotswold Expedition experience, as is the all-inclusive drinks during the Pub lunch.  We advise you to have a ‘designated driver’.

Shopping & facilities

The answer is at least 5. Your guide will point these out as we go.

Did a future queen lose her innocence here?

Children

  • Are children allowed in the Pub?

Yes, they are more than welcome.  Please let us know on the Booking Form if you need a highchair.

  • Is the expedition suitable for children?

Very much so.  Children find it fun and interesting.  For older children, the historical content is relevant to the National Curriculum for England and approved by teachers.

  • Can we pick flowers?

We think that flowers look so much better when they are growing free and wild.  During autumn you can help yourself to acorns and horse chestnuts or ‘conkers’ (inedible of course).  In the blackberry season, you can forage in the hedges, but watch out for the thorns.

  • Is there a child rate?

Yes, babies and toddler children up to aged three go free.

Money stuff

  • What if somebody else is paying as a gift, but not coming on the expedition?

No problem.  Anybody can pay, but we still need to know the names and details of those actually coming on the expedition, both for the Zoom invitation and for their delicious, inclusive, award-winning Pub lunch.

  • What’s your policy on refunds?

The short answer is that this is fair and reasonable.  We are nice people and refunds depend on the circumstance.  Please read our full refund policy via this link Refund & Cancellation Policy.

Jane Austen’s weekend hideaway.

Privacy

  • Why do you want our date of birth?

We’d like to give you something special if you spend your birthday with Cotswold Expeditions.  Discretion is our watchword, it’s the date that’s important, not your age.

  • What about GDPR and privacy?

Don’t worry, we only keep information securely in order to make your Cotswold Expedition wonderful as well as safe.  The only other information we keep is what you give us permission to for, such as signing up for our Cotswold Expedition Newsletter.

  • Can we take photos and videos enroute?

Yes of course, but we have to stay on schedule.  There is no restriction on taking photos of ancient monuments.  Most of our visitors are happy to share photos and videos with each other via our Facebook page.

  • Why do you need my vehicle number/licence plate?

This is so we can pay in advance for your car parking at certain locations.

Safety

  • Do you have a First Aid kit?

Yes.  But we will assume you and your children know not to pick up unidentified mushrooms, berries, or dive into stinging nettles and get snagged on thorns.

The recently discovered hiding place of a Sherman tank battalion.

Tech & vehicles

  • What happens if there is a loss of signal during the Zoom expedition?

If this does happen, Zoom will automatically reconnect when the signal is restored.  You won’t miss anything if this happens.  We usually know when we head into ‘data holes’.

  • We don’t have smart devices, can we still come on the expedition?

Yes, absolutely no problem.  You’ll be able to follow us and still enjoy the expedition, most of the content is presented at the various locations we visit.

  • I have a motorbike, can I still come?

Yes absolutely.  But we will assume you have the in-helmet Bluetooth tech to enable full participation in our Zoom event.

Travel

  • What about parking and admissions?

Relax.  All pay-and-display parking is taken care of by us, as are the admission charges to National Monuments.

  • What happens if we get lost, lose you, or miss a turn?

Don’t worry.  We only pull out at junctions when there is time and space for us all to make the turn.  If you have to wait, we’ll wait or slow right down.  If you lose sight of us, just let us know on Zoom and we’ll direct you towards us.

  • What happens if we breakdown?

If you get a flat tyre, we will be unable to wait for your breakdown assistance to arrive as this could be up to an hour away.  If you can fix it yourself, you can catch us up.

  • Can we leave the expedition midway through?

Yes, by all means, but if you leave, please let us know and sign out of the Zoom meeting.

Weather, content & language

  • What about bad weather?

We go on expeditions in all weathers, all year round.  It would take a lot to stop us, but if we have to cancel due to bad weather, i.e. deep snow and hazardous ice, Cotswold Expeditions will send you a cancellation alert in good time and offer you another day.

  • Is the historical content accurate?

Yes.  We are proud of our 10-year project of original and peer reviewed research.  We are especially excited by the discoveries we have made.  These are so new that they remain largely unpublished and cannot be found on Google or Wikipedia.

  • What language is used?

We use English throughout, and take special care to ensure that everybody understands.  We welcome questions of course and if there is anything you don’t understand just let us know.
